Most scan tools do not identify the actual failed component. They may indicate a sensor fault, but the root cause could be a wiring issue, poor connection, or communication problem within the system.
Replacing parts based solely on fault codes often leads to unnecessary expense and the original fault remaining.
At Logic Auto Electrical, we take a different approach. We test, trace, and verify the fault to identify the true cause before recommending any parts replacement.
Diagnostic Scan Tools
Most scan tools do not identify the actual failed component. They may indicate a sensor fault, but the root cause could be a wiring issue, poor connection, or communication problem within the system.
Replacing parts based solely on fault codes often leads to unnecessary expense and the original fault remaining.
Scan tools can often give an idea of an area to look, but very rarely do they identify the failed part specifically – for example – It may display a fault with the mass airfloe sensor, but often replacing that part won’t fix the issue. It may be a worn or faulty pin in a connector plug going too or from the sensor. or maybe the power isn’t present at the sensor, or the ground (earth) wire, or broken communication from the sensor to the main engine computer (ECU). Once the ECU has the data, what is it doing with it? Or a wire might have corroded, or worn through inside the wiring harness, from rubbing on something in the engine bay. There are many things to check before identifying the cause of the issue, and the one thing we will NOT do is replace parts until we have identified the issue – and then, depending on where the fault is located, we can repair the wiring harness, or clean a connecter, fix loose pin connections, re-establish communication on the CANbus or LIN line etc, so no replacement parts are required.
